Infrared shooting or summer-like winter

Sony is relatively compact and not too heavy camera. I take it with me for all shooting sessions in any day time and in any weather. There was no case when I returned from the shooting session without trophy. Imagine a noon in Egypt. Heat and blinding sun at its highest point; excursions are always arranged at the time when it’s impossible to make photographs. Shadows are shot and don’t reveal the objects’ size, contrasts are excessive even for modern high-quality films, not to mention digital automatic cameras. And Sony helps me heartily shoot symbolic photographs of the ancient monuments, landscapes of the stony deserts in Sharm el-Sheikh surroundings, as well as genre scenes from the life of Arabs and tourists (See photo 8-12).

    8. “Stylish hat of Ramses II”. Egypt. 2 p.m. The sun is at its highest point. IR-mode turned deep green palm leaves into fantastic headgear made from white fluffy feathers. I needed all thickest filters in order to suppress the noon sunshine. However, the file still seemed too whitened in the light. I had to blank out the lights having overlaid one more layer on the main one and put them together in multiply mode, and then erase all dark parts in the upper layer. As a result, the shot has no technical drawbacks. In such way I processed all files shot in Egypt.

9. “Castle of Queen Hatshepsut”. Egypt. Atomatic shooting mode. Maximum set of filters.

    10. “Antiar”. Half an hour after the sunrise. Stony desert not far from Sharm el-Sheikh. Automatic shooting mode. Maximum set of filters.

    11. “Street cleaners in Karnak temple”. Egypt. Noon. Reserve of photographic latitude of IR-matrix was enough to convey small details both in light and deep shade. Automatic mode of shooting. Maximum set of filters.
