How to shoot weddings.

A photographer shoots very often group portraits in weddings. The newly-weds go to different places as if specially to be photographed against the background of Luzhniki or temple on Poklonnaya hill, or at the eternal light with their friends, parents and bridesmaids. This is important for them. And it is an important part of the day for me, as a photographer. It’s a difficult task to photograph a group of 40 persons. It’s almost impossible to arrange a group of people in high spirits in a shot so that they could be seen in the photo. It’s well-known that people blink all the time, but only photographers know how it is bad for taking pictures. A photographer should always make several takes; otherwise there will be at least one “sleeping” person in the picture for sure.
I always ask people not to blink and warn them:
- Say cheese!
But this phrase is not very effective: there are always people in the picture who have blinked. Somebody sometimes bows his head or scratches his eye. I reclaim the spoilage by transfer of the necessary head from a better shot.
It’s useful to have a camera with high resolution for shooting such subjects. In my opinion 6 megapixels are insufficient. Faces become blurred even when shooting at minimal sensitivity mode. And take into consideration that you shoot in a room. This is a shot made with Nikon D2X at sensitivity 400ASA. I achieved appropriate lighting by photoflash pointed to the ceiling. I couldn’t use a light stand because I was short of time. I shot the photo standing on a fishing box. This allowed me to catch in the shot all the faces of the guests who wanted to be photographed (See photo 11).
