Light brush
Peculiarities of shooting: - utterly dark studio is not necessary for brush shooting: a little light makes no harm, on the contrary, it’ll help you not to strike against the tripod; - camera must be fixed safely; use a solid tripod to get rid of any motion; - table on which the object of shooting is placed and the object itself shouldn’t move unless blur is used as a decorative technique; - you must think over the shot composition and lighting disposal before the shooting, i.e. you must determine how will be each objected lighted, the distance between the object and the light brush and direction of its light. It’s a good idea to turn off light in the studio and rehearse all stages of shooting, writing down your actions. This is the way of composing a legend which you should follow while shooting. The trouble is that you can see the result of your work only after the film development. That’s why it’s perilous to change the legend during the shooting: you can spoil the spade-work, which could take many hours; - exposure is defined with the help of a light meter: at first you focus the distance from the light brush to the object, then measure the falling light or light reflected from the object. If you are going to light a long object, clear out how long you should illuminate each spot on the object with the brush. Then measure the length of the object and divide it by the number of spots. When I speak about spots I mean a light spot formed with light-fiber attachment. For example, an attachment with diameter 12 mm in the distance of 5 cm from the object surface makes a light spot with diameter 12 cm – this is the spot I was talking about. It’s easy to calculate that we need four times more time than the light meter indicated in the measuring point for proper illumination of an object with length 48 cm. If the light meter shows 2 sec., the overall exposure is 8 sec. In order to illuminate the surface evenly, it’s better to “smear” the light on the still life surface with a regular movements of stirs;

We should meet more often.
